Here I show you how to make homemade coconut milk from scratch!
Super delicious, creamy, really simple and ready within a couple of minutes. Using ONLY the one ingredient: grated coconut.
We often need a cup or two of coconut milk and we either don’t have any in the fridge or we don’t want to buy a full carton just to let it sit there four days. This is a great way to get your coconut milk without any preservatives, additives or added sugars, from the comfort of your own kitchen.

FAQs
How long does homemade coconut milk last in the fridge?
You can store it in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator.
Is it ok if it separates after chilling in the fridge?
It’s completely normal if you see a thicker layer on top. Most comercial creamy coconut milks tend to separate when chilled in the fridge, I don’t see a reason why a homemade one should be any different. So don’t worry just shake it a couple of times and it’ll be ready to go.
How thick or light can it be?
This recipe is for 1 cup of creamy coconut milk but you can simply adjust the factor according to your needs:
- Creamy: 1 cup of grated coconut – 1 1/4 cup of water (315 ml)
- Regular 1 cup of grated coconut – 2 cups of water (500 ml)
- Lighter: 1 cup of grated coconut – 3 tazas de agua (750 ml)
to make 1 L: 1 1/2 cup of grated coconut – 4 1/4 cups of water (1L +65 ml)
What can I do with the remaining pulp ?
It is worth not throwing it away. You can use it as a part of energy balls recipes, protein bars, cookies, muffins, you name it!

You can also use it to make brownies, smoothies, curry dishes and more. One of my favorite recipes the vegan versions of “dulce de leche” and “Alfajores” which are traditional Argentine pastries made with two soft, melt-in-your-mouth cookies filled with a mouth watering dollop of creamy “dulce de leche”
